Pookkalam by unimaginative engineers..

Two engineers and an engineering student decide to make a pookalam infront of their house for Uthradam and Thiruonam for Onam 2007 with the support of Amma. The two engineers go shopping for flowers and then start browsing the web for a good design on Uthradam day. They take ideas from various designs and finally come up with a design. After dinner, they all decide to draw the pattern in front of the door and keep the flowers ready so that it is easy to make the pookalam in the morning. The REC passed out engineer takes the lead in drawing the design and the other two join as "shinkidis"..The design consisted of a circle divided into various sectors, two overlapping squares and outer squares. They start by digging out a whiteboard marker, a piece of thread and the protractors and setsquares used for the engineering graphics. With angles and lengths measured, the design is drawn on the floor and filled with flowers in the morning to make a beautiful pookalam...

I have taken part in pookalam competitions earlier in college and all.. we used to use thread and chalk to draw cirles.. but this was the first time we measured angles and drew pookalam.. I bet how many of you have really drawn pookkalam using setsqaures and protractors...

This Onam was anyways a great one.. Being the first Onam of our little bundle of joy, we really celebrated it well..With guests on Uthradam and Thiruonam days and beautiful pookalams and sadhya and onakkodi, this is the way I wish Onam is celebrated every year...
